Safe and Sound

I got a concerned e-mail regarding a grenade attack in Kigali on Wednesday—I’m posting to let anyone else who might be worried know that we’re fine and hadn’t even heard about the explosion until now. Here’s a link to LATimes’ reposting of the Associated Press’ (grossly exaggerated and inaccurate) reportage on the event and the recent elections: http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/wire/sns-ap-af-rwanda-election,0,1560697.story

In the meantime, I am too tired to write anything significant, so here are a few stray thoughts directed at friends/family who I hope are reading this:

—Jane: we’ve been listening to a lot of Bon Iver here at the house, I’m really close to being hooked

—Kevork: I took photos of an African Crowned Crane today, just for you

—Talar: I’ve been cooking amazing food here (using avocados), reminds me of the masterpieces we created together in that decrepit kitchen in the Eagle Rock house

—Mary: the colors here are amazing, your style and vision would totally fit in here

—Harout: Happy Birthday, Haroutig!

—Ruben, Matt, Karo: I’m going to bring you guys some authentic Rwandan beer, the cheapest one is called “Primus” and is therefore awesome

—Mama, Hayreeg, Varty: The Rwandese have a tradition to always ask each other how their families are doing—so I talk about you guys every day! Hope you got back safe from your road trip, love and miss you lots.

Things are super busy here, and the Internet/electricity situation is unpredictable. I’ll try to post something more elaborate soon, particularly about how my photography students are doing.

Oh, one more thing: Rwandan food is amazing.
